Lesson 7 - BIOS
What is
BIOS?
BIOS refers to Basic
Input Output System, it is software that stored in a small memory chip on the
motherboard.
The Basic Input Output System tells the computer how
to present a number of basic functions, such as booting and controlling the
keyboard. In addition, it identifies and configures the computer (Hard drive,
floppy drive, optical drive, CPU, memory …)
How to
access to BIOS?
It is accessed through
the through the BIOS Setup Utility, which is reasonable purpose of
the BIOS.
The BIOS Setup Utility accessed in different way
depending on the computers. Here are the steps that you need to access it.

Restart the monitor.

Keep watching the
entering setup message in the first few seconds after turning on your monitor.
The message contains which key or keys you need to access BIOS. These are some
common ways of presenting the BIOS key:

Press the key that
mentioned in the previous message. Note: you may need to press the key
many time, do not hold the key down.
And then you will be
accessed to BIOS.
Changing setting through
BIOS:
Date and time: follow the following
steps to change the date and time in Windows 7.
- Click on the “Date and Time: in the notification area.
- Then
click Change date and time settings in the windows that will appear.
Boot sequence: when you are in the main menu in BIOS, you may
not find the (finding boot order) section, but you may find (First Boot Device,
Boot Order, Boot Management, Boot Sequence, etc.)
You will see First,
Second and Third Boot Device. Use your keyboard arrows to change the devices to
HDD (hard drive), Floppy, CDROM, or Network.
Add / remove Password: In BIOS main
menu, choose “Security settings”
and click Enter, then go to the Admin Pass section and enter the new
Administrator password. When you are finished, press
the “Esc” and choose save and close.
Change the drive
settings:

Enter the BIOS main
menu.

If prompted for a
password, enter it and press the "Enter" key
·
Navigate to the
"CMOS Setup" and press "Enter".
·
In the CMOS menu, find
"Hard Disk" and then the "Primary Master" selection.
·
Move the cursor to the
"Primary Slave" selection and press "Enter" again.
·
Normally, you can add up
to 4 drives.
·
Press the
"F10" key to save the changes.
Lesson 7 - DHCP
DHCP
Definition:
The Dynamic
Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a network protocol that is
used to configure network devices so that they can communicate on an IP network.
A DHCP client uses the DHCP protocol to acquire configuration information, such
as an IP address, a default route and one or more DNS server addresses from a
DHCP server. The DHCP client then uses this information to configure its host.
Once the configuration process is complete, the host is able to communicate on
the internet.
How to set network settings for DHCP for Windows7:
1. Click the Start button
2. Click Control Panel
3. Click Network and Internet
4. Click View network status and tasks under Network and
Sharing Center
5. Click Change adapter settings on the left navigation bar
6. Right-click on the network adapter who wish to change, such as
Local Area Connection
7. Select Properties
8. Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
9. Click Properties
10. In the General tab, ensure that Obtain an IP address
automatically radio button is selected
Note: Prior to making this change, right down the IP, Subnet
Mask and Default Gateway information as it will be lost if Obtain
an IP address automatically is selection so you may change the network
information at a later time.
11. Click OK twice and exit back to the Desktop
lesson 6 - Post & Pre installation
Pre-installation:
Pre-installation is the steps that a user applys before installing a software.
Windows XP Pre-Installation:
- Insert Windows XP installation CD into the
PC.
- Restart the PC and click on the suitable key
that brings up the boot menu.
- Select “Boot from CD” option and then press
on any key to continue the booting process
- Click on the “Enter” key and then the “F8”
key.
- Insert Windows XP installation CD into the PC.
- Restart the PC and click on the suitable key that brings up the boot menu.
- Select “Boot from CD” option and then press on any key to continue the booting process
- Click on the “Enter” key and then the “F8” key.

Post installation:
Post installation are the steps that you should do to continue and manage the installation process.
Post installation:
Post installation is group of actions or options that should
be done after the installing a software.
Steps:
- Set the Root Password.
- Set the Timezone.
- Adding Users.
- Setting the Host Name.
- Changing Keyboard Layouts.
- Installing Software Packages.
